The statistics revealed at Croke Park conference is shocking. The road safety conference informed: the deaths of one in four pedestrians were linked to their own alcohol consumption. A third part of those killed is positive for alcohol. In the remaining third an alcohol test was not carried out. The Irish consume the second-highest amount of alcohol out of 29 countries.

Department of Health studied 67% surveyed supported lowering the legal alcohol limit.

3,430 people were admitted to hospital following car crashes.

1,086 people injured in road crashes were admitted to Letterkenny General Hospital. 320 of these 1,086 were admitted to wards with the average stay three days.

Cheerless statistics on alcohol-related deaths:

  • Approximately 75,000 deaths are happened due to alcohol every year;
  • Near about 39% of traffic accidents involve alcohol;
  • According to WHO, worldwide alcohol causes 1.8 million deaths (3,2% of total) and 58.3 million (4% of total) of Disability-Adjusted Life Years (DALYs).
